Last July I posted about a log that I picked up during a paddle trip down the French Broad River. The wood has been air drying in my shop since then, and it is now dry and ready to use. Today I did some milling, cutting and laying out. Below are some photos of the results, click on any of the thumbnails for larger images.
This will become the lids for two BX-04 boxes. The lower area has been moistened with thinner to simulate the oil finish.
This will be lid of a BX-08.
This is the lid for a BX-17. The lower portion has been moistened with thinner to simulate the oil finish.
There is enough wood to make the following boxes:
  • (4)  BX-04, 5" x 7" x 1.75", $105 each.
  • (2) BX-03, 5" x 8" x 1.75", $110 each. Brian has reserved one of these.
  • (2) BX-06, 6.5" x 9" x 2.75", $185-$210 each. Angie has first refusal on one of these, and John P. has the second one.
  • (1) BX-08, 6.5" x 10" x 2.75, $220. Erin has first refusal on this box.
  • (1) BX-16, 8" x 9" x 3.25", $295-$320.
  • (1) BX-17, 8" x 15" x 3.25", $375-$425.
The boxes won't be finished for a couple of months yet. First dibs go to members of the paddle trip. Any boxes left will be posted on my website and offered to the public. All the proceeds will be donated to Mountain True. Contact me if you want to put dibs on any of these boxes. Thank you for helping support our efforts to save the french broad River!

Yay! I want one! BX-08 unless Erin wants it, then I'll pick one of the BX-06's. Looking forward to seeing the finished products!

Hi Ray, glad to hear from you on the salvaged log project! I will buy one of the BX-06 boxes, not set up for pens, but with one standard tray with removable dividers...at lease that's what I THINK I need for it. Anyway, when you get ready to build, count me in for a BX-06 and we'll define the details. Thanks, it was a super trip. John Phillips

Thanks John! Will you be going on the river trip this year? Hope to see you then.

Not sure yet Ray, planning to be out of the country in September, and out of my job in October...so other fun trips up in the air for now! This box will be a reminder of a great time last year for sure.

Hi Ray. I would like dibs on one of the BX-03's. I also don't need setup for pens, maybe divider like John. Looking forward to the box & the trip in July.
